2Switch collects articles with the Hytruck

2Switch is going to be using the Hytruck in the districts of Arnhem for collecting articles for recycling.

2Switch, a subsidiary of Sita, is going to use the Hytruck in the districts of Arnhem for collecting reusable fabric, household goods and electrical equipment. The municipal council in Arnhem will use the income from two years of collecting clothing in the town to pay for the use of the hydrogen-electric truck. The income is donated every year to a good environmental cause, and this year the entire amount of approximately € 80,000 will be used for the Hytruck.

Just like the HyMove bus, the Hytruck is equipped with a fuel cell and electric wheel hub motors from e-Traction. It is therefore an extremely environmentally-friendly vehicle, which was actually developed for making deliveries to shops in the town centre. The Municipality of Arnhem hopes that using the Hytruck will encourage clean transport and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

"2Switch is an environment company, and improving the environment is a mission of ours", says Jip Peper, managing director of 2Switch. "We drive a lot in the urban area and using the Hytruck is an enormous improvement. I also believe that hydrogen is the energy provider of the future and it is necessary to gain experience with it. The Municipality of Arnhem has provided us with the opportunity of running the Hytruck. As a business we are now contributing to the introduction of hydrogen technology, and I'm quite proud of that."

The Hytruck will be used in Arnhem from 2011 and will refuel with hydrogen at the new hydrogen filling station in Arnhem.
