Alderman Michiel van Wessem drove the first pile for a new filling station in the Kleefse Waard industrial park in Arnhem on 30 January. The new futuristic-looking filling station, called H2 Wave, will be the first public facility in the country with a dispenser for fuelling with hydrogen. The dispenser is currently at the Avia filling station on the Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat, where it was officially commissioned in December 2010 as part of the HyMove project. Construction of the filling station, which in addition to the dispenser has three or four pump islands, a carwash installation and a number of customer-operated carwash booths, is expected to be completed in June this year.

The hydrogen filling station is an important part of the HyMove project. Jan van Beckhoven, director of the Stichting Waterstof Onderneming Gelderland, is pleased about the coming of the new filling station: “Not only is the new location more visible, its layout will also be more suitable for refuelling buses. This is very important for the HyMove project, because we want to increase the number of cars and buses that will be running on hydrogen. Furthermore, its geographical location is excellent, as it will have to be possible in the future for hydrogen-powered vehicles to drive from the west of the country to Germany via Arnhem.”

The hydrogen filling station on the Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat was officially opened in 2010 in the context of the HyMove project. An agreement between the Municipality of Arnhem and VéBé van Steijn was signed during the opening, and was the symbolic green light for the construction of the new filling station. There are a number of hydrogen businesses in the Kleefse Waard that have made contributions to the HyMove project at the technical level. The place where the filling station is to be built is indicated by the sign that the municipality has erected on the site on the Westervoortsedijk. The filling station fits in well here because the Kleefse Waard is reserved mainly for businesses in the environmental sector.
