Training in refuelling with hydrogen

A training session for refuelling with hydrogen was held in Arnhem in January. All the users of the hydrogen-powered vehicles running in the HyMove project, the staff of VB van Steijn and the makers of the refuelling system attended.

A training session for refuelling hydrogen-powered vehicles was held at VéBé van Steijn's Avia filling station in Arnhem in January. The new HyMove hydrogen filling station was opened here at the end of last year. All the users of the hydrogen-powered vehicles running in the HyMove project, the staff of VéBé van Steijn and the makers of the refuelling system attended. The training was organised by Anahita Amiri, Project Engineer at Air Products.

It started off with general safety instructions, followed by an explanation of the working of the dispenser, using the P&ID (process and instruments diagram). A device called a reformer converts green gas into hydrogen, which is then compressed by boosters to a pressure of 350 bar. The hydrogen is then fed into the vehicle's hydrogen tank under high pressure via the Air Products dispenser.

The complete installation and the procedure for using it were explained. The Subaru Impreza belonging to Arnhem businessman Hans van der Woude was then filled up as an example. Finally, all those present were given the opportunity to practise and were given a certificate to take home.

The HyMove hydrogen bus, 2Switch's Hytruck, the Municipality of Arnhem's Fiat Doblo and Hans van der Woude's Subaru Impreza are running on hydrogen in the HyMove project. They refuel with hydrogen at the filling station. The training course was important in making the users aware of the safety instructions and how the system works. Furthermore, the training ensured that users are familiar with refuelling with hydrogen.
